What will happen on the day of the scan?

This will depend on what type of scan your are having. Our staff will fully explain the procedure
to you when you arrive for your appointment.

A small needle will be inserted into a vein in your arm, hand or foot.

A small amount of a radioactive tracer will be injected through this needle.

You will then lie and relax quietly for 60 to 90 minutes before having the scan.

You will be asked to empty your bladder just before the scan begins.

We will then ask you to lie on your back on the scanner with your arms placed above your head.

The whole body scan lasts 18 minutes and the head scan lasts only 12 minutes. On occasion, we

might repeat the scan again after a period of time.

You will be given some breathing instructions for the first part of the scan, after this you can just

relax.
